Green Tag Sale

Tag Sales are a great way to find new homes for old stuff. Each item you sell is one thing that didn’t get buried in the landfill, and another thing that did not require new resources to create. In fact it’s the second R in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Advertising

Print advertisements on recycled paper, or dispense with paper altogether and advertise online. You’ll meet the neighbors who stay home and read www.craigslist.org, watch NY1 or check their community calendar at www.ny1.com or read local papers like the Staten Island Advance. Remind shoppers to bring reusable shopping bags.

Bagging

No need to purchase bags, tag sales are a great opportunity to reuse the hoard of plastic bags that you’ve been saving from the grocery store.

Leftovers

Before the day of the sale, make arrangements with a local shelter and/or a second hand store so that they are available to receive the unsold materials that they can reuse. Remember, although they prefer clothes that are in good condition, Goodwill, and other thrift stores will sell clothing that is in poor condition as rags or raw fibers.
