How can I get Plant A Lot to help me in my community garden?

Please fill out the Open Space Project questionnaire for consideration. Open Space Greening works with only a few gardens a year.
If your group has raised some funds towards a project, PAL can provide the expertise to help your volunteers to make it happen. OSGP staff can help provide a limited amount of technical assistance including design, construction and plantings.
You can also try contacting Brooklyn Greenbridge at Brooklyn Botanic Garden if your community garden is in Brooklyn. If you're in the Bronx, contact Bronx Greenup at New York Botanical garden for assistance. All community gardens registered with Greenthumb can receive tools and building materials by attending workshops.

Can I get plants donated to my garden?

Our program gets donated plant material from time to time. Often we are looking for gardens that can give them a new home. Please send us a written request including a description of your community garden, contact information and a general description of the types of plants you would like. We cannot promise any specific plants.

Do these plants come back every year?

Figure out if the plants are annuals or perennials. Perennial plants live for more than two years. An annual plant usually germinates, flowers and dies in one year.

How do I make a donation?

Please call us at 212-788-7900 or email us.

How do I borrow tools?

Hand tools for gardening are available to community groups. Please make requests as far in advance as possible. Tool availability is dependent on outstanding tool loans to PAL project needs and staff availability. Every effort is made to provide tools to groups that provide at least two weeks notice. How do I obtain a Rainwater Harvesting System in my garden?

Visit Water Resources Group for upcoming workshops. There you can be placed on a waiting list and connect with other gardeners who can provide advice and share experiences on starting Rainwater Harvesting systems.
