Recycling at the Back to the Beach Festival

Calling all Zero Waste Volunteers

Back to the Beach Festival

June 21 & 22, 2008

Reduce climate change this summer: Wanted: Volunteers to monitor Zero Waste Stations at the Back to the Beach Festival on Saturday, June 21st or Sunday, June 22nd. Sign up with the Urban Park Rangers at (718) 967-3542.

Volunteers will tend one or two of the festival’s zero waste stations for three short hours in groups of three, and enjoy the festival for the remainder of the day or evening.

Volunteer shifts:

  1. 11am-2:15pm "The Early Shift"
  2. 2pm-5:15pm "The Afternoon Shift"

The role of volunteers is to educate festival goers about the value of recycling, and that:

  • Metal, glass and plastic recyclables belong in the blue bin
  • Clean paper and cardboard go in the green bin
  • Non recyclables go into the trash.

Committed volunteers will make recycling easy by explaining the recycling system to festival goers in a friendly way to assure that everyone has a great time recycling at the Back to the Beach Festival, and feels empowered to recycle when they return home.

The Urban Park Rangers & The Office of Recycling Outreach and Education, a program of Council on the Environment of New York City, are working to make this Back to the Beach Festival the most sustainable Festival of 2008.

Don’t miss this chance to do something fun that will have a direct impact on the environment, reduce climate change and improve the economy.

To volunteer for this extraordinary event please contact the Urban Park Rangers by calling (718) 967-3542 directly. Please provide your name, email address, phone number, and shift preference (day and time).
