CW11/WPIX to air “TURNING THE BIG APPLE GREEN”

New York, NY—April 21, 2008—The CW11/WPIX will air “TURNING THE BIG APPLE GREEN” a 30-minute original detailing socially responsible and environmentally friendly initiatives taking place in New York City.

Hosted by CW11 Morning News Reporter Patricia Del Rio, “TURNING THE BIG APPLE GREEN” will feature companies and individuals who are helping to make New York City a greener environment. “TURNING THE BIG APPLE GREEN” will air Friday, April 25 at 4:30am and Saturday, April 26 at 10:30pm.

Among the program highlights, WPIX visits:

  • The High School for Environmental Studies in Manhattan to talk with students and the principal about their unique learning environment.
  • The Union Square Greenmarket where we spoke with Union Square Café Executive Chef Carmen Quagliata about shopping in a local farmers market.
  • The New York Mets new environmentally friendly stadium, Citi Field
  • 1100 Bergen St. Community Garden in Crown Heights, Brooklyn where the garden has become the focal point for the neighborhood.
  • NYC Department of Sanitation to find out what New Yorkers can do to help in the effort for a clean and green NYC.
  • Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island to explore their new green initiatives.
  • The Sims Municipal Recycling plant in Jersey City, N.J. to find out what happens to bottles and cans after they leave our curbs.
