Located at Manhattan’s northern-most point at the foot one of the city’s biggest and most beautiful parks, this market is an all year-round neighborhood favorite. People of all ages, backgrounds, and tastes gather each Saturday to meet and greet their friends and neighbors and do their weekly shopping. Even on the coldest, darkest winter Saturdays, loyal Inwood shoppers come out because they know they can’t get products like this anywhere else. There is a core group of 10 farmers who attend every week of the year and during the peak season about 5 more join the market.
Hawthorne valley provides the market with a whole range of organic and bio-dynamic products including cheese, meat, baked goods and produce. Robby Williams of Seatuck Fishery brings in fish and shell fish from the waters off of Westhampton and always has a fish tale to tell. In the summer Valley Shepherd sells sheep milk cheeses. There are 2 orchards, Samascott’s from Columbia County, and Breezy Hill from Dutchess County, both of whom bring cider and homemade baked goods, as well as fresh fruits in season from strawberries to peaches to apples and pears. Dante Hesse of Milk Thistle Farms keeps Inwood flowing with organic milk, cream and chocolate milk all sold in returnable glass bottles. Tremblay Apiaries provides honey and other bee products for every imaginable taste and purpose. For those who need to do some carbo loading before their run in Inwood park or those who just want to indulge their sweet tooth on Saturdays Bread Alone provides organic breads and pastries and Bakers Bounty bakes everything from babka to quiche.
Community activities, cooking demonstrations and recipe exchanges will add to the diverse nature of this market.

She worked for 6 years as an adventure guide in the mountains of Colorado, then wandered the world before landing in NYC. While planting a green roof with middle school kids from the Bronx, Sarah realized she'd gotten back to my 'roots', and started seeking more ways to connect "youth" with farming. She’s worked with the UN Youth Caucus on Sustainable Development, Stone Barns Farm Camp, and now joins us as a Greenmarket Manager. | |
