This much-loved Saturday market, bridges the burgeoning Williamsburg hipster and long-time Greenpoint Polish communities, who come to shop, mingle with neighbors, and enjoy the park setting along with picnickers, dog-walkers and joggers. Open since 1997, this market has adapted to the changing face of the neighborhood while still staying true to its longtime customers. Even rain won’t keep the loyal shoppers from coming out to support their favorite farmers. People line up 10 deep at Ronnybrook Dairy to pick-up fresh milk and yogurt. Arcadian Pasture’s bounty of grass-fed beef, pork, chicken and rabbit is cut and packaged especially for the customer. Organic vegetables from Garden of Eve and Suka-Di Farm’s luscious peaches along with jam, fish, baked goods and juices round out the offerings.

Sept. 5th -- Cabbage and Kraut.  Learn the magic of fermentation from market regular Ellen Kleckner as she performs a sauerkraut making demonstration.

Sept. 12th -- Pickles, Pickles! Learn how to jazz up and preserve those tasty, local cucumbers. Pickling demonstration presented by Bob McClure of McClure’s Pickles.

Sept. 19th -- Farmer Tan Competition. Celebrate the end of summer by judging our farmers’ superior tans.

This Alabama native loves food!  Lauren Furhman loves growing it, preparing it, studying it, and, of course, eating it. This love affair with a most basic necessity began twenty years ago with none other than the classic, all-American chocolate chip cookie. Over the years it has expressed itself in the form of culinary student, baker, cookbook recipe tester, amateur gardener, and now McCarren Park Greenmarket Manager.
