These are the stories of some of the new farmers who got their start with the support of the NFDP
Tello`s Green Farm
Nestor and Alejandra Tello
Nestor Tello was a veterinarian in his native Colombia, but found it impossible to work in his chosen field here in the US. Along with his wife Alejandra, he transformed his love of animals into a laying hen operation in Dutchess County, NY. The couple also raises two acres of pesticide-free vegetables.
Nolasco`s Farm
Sergio and Paz Nolasco
In 2005, Sergio and Paz Nolasco transformed an idle piece of land in Westchester County, NY back into a working farm. Since then, they have doubled their production to ten acres of sustainably-raised vegetables.
Rodrimex Farm
Martin Rodriguez
In 2005, Martín Rodriguez became the first NFDP farmer to own a farm when he and his family purchased 16 acres in Orange County, NY. Martín specializes in Mexican herbs and vegetables grown without pesticides.
La Baraja Farm
Pedro Rodriguez
Pedro Rodriguez started farming with his brother Martín in 2004. He and his brother still work together, but in 2006, Pedro decided to start his own business in order to focus on new farm products and livestock. Pedro now operates his own farm on 10 acres in Orange County, NY.
Angel`s Family Farm
Ana Angel
Ana Angel has farming in her blood. When she heard about the NFDP she told her brothers Martín and Pedro Rodriguez about it right away even though she was not ready to farm herself. But she and her husband were finally able to fulfill her dream--now they grow 5 acres of sustainable vegetables and flowers.
