Greenmarket Meet Your Farmer visits bring regional farmers and Greenmarket staff to New York City classrooms.  Designed to compliment the Greenmarket School Tours, Meet Your Farmer classroom visits enable students to interact directly with a farmer in a quiet educational setting.

Farmers discuss what a typical day in their life is like throughout the seasons, talk about what they grow or raise on their farms, and host a question and answer session.  Every visit also involves a tasting of the farmer’s product, an interactive activity, visual aids and fun hand-outs.

Meet Your Farmer participants include orchards, dairies, vegetable, livestock and poultry farms, bakeries, fishmongers, and maple syrup, honey, pickle and jam producers.  To date, Greenmarket farmers have visited over 1000 children in their classrooms.

Visits are usually 45 to 60 minutes

Maximum number of students: 40 per class.  Please note that it is preferable for farmers to visit more than one classroom in a day.

Prerequisite: The class must first have a School Tour of a market in order to request a farmer visit in the classroom.

Cost: $75 per visit, to reimburses farmers for their travel and product costs.  Please note that farmers are often able to visit more than one classroom in a day.

Most visits are scheduled January through April.  Please book early, availability for this special project is limited.
